I’m in Nancy, (north of Paris), jetlagged and therefore awake way too early, passing the time goofing off on my mom’s laptop. We are staying at my uncle’s house…he has pet roly-polies in the compost. He claims they don’t like oranges.
Roly-Poly= “a colloquial name for isopod crustaceans of the family Armadillidiidae”.
Similar to armadillos and roly-polies, I have the ability to make myself tiny and invisible, a skill that comes in handy for discrete people-watching.
Sneaky elevator photos in the airport…roly-poly mode.
I couldn’t resist buying Dazed & Confused for the plane ride…Lily Cole on the cover and an article on “the future of fashion and film” made this issue irresistible. I also wanted to get Nylon, but there wasn’t a single place that sold them in the SFO international terminal.
Enjoyed a cappucino and a fraise tagada. People don’t celebrate Thanksgiving here, since its an American holiday, but we are going to have a make-up Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday, a la francaise.
Oscar Wilde said, “One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.” I’m pretty sure this Amnesty scarf from All Saints qualifies.
Oscar Wilde also mentioned something about the holiday spirit and the fact that this really needs to be in my closet right now. Good ol’ Oscar and I go way back.
I looove this video lookbook for Monki. First of all, their 2010 collection is amazing, I would wear 100% of it. And secondly, this video is adorable, and such an original way to present clothes…I am super inspired. The green screen film I shot last week has sort of the same concept, it is a mixed medium piece with black and white animation.
I especially love the black and white striped wedges. Monki, please come to San Francisco!
Boots by New Rock. The pink ones are so badass…I spend so long staring at them it got kind of awkward with the lady who worked there…oops. They are available online here.
These black lace A-Morir glasses by Kerin Rose are pretty amazing, however I’m thinking some dollar store safety glasses, some glue and black lace will do the trick. Available online for $222 if you want the real thing.
I got really excited this morning when I found Fashion TV’s youtube channel. I don’t have a TV here in the states so I only watch Project Runway online, but in Switzerland I used to watch a lot of Fashion TV.
Another fashion film for the road…“Ghost” by director Marco Brambilla for MUSE magazine. The model is the brilliant Natasha Poly, who is intensely fabulous in this haunting video, even when stripped bear of expensive clothes and makeup.
Yesssss! The infamous Ashish for TopShop platform wedges are back in all their glory online at TopShop. I don’t know if they’re hard to walk in but I do know they are totally worth the pain.
Filming on 16mm is so much more satisfying than pressing “record” on a video camera…it is a much more physical experience and I love the sound of the film zooming through the camera.
Don’t I look professional with my silly pom pom hat?
“Edge of the World” by Mariano Vivanco for Dazed & Confused, model Hilary Rhoda wears Nina Ricci and Armani. I love how surrealist and fleeting this short is…one cannot help being reminded of Maya Deren’s Meshes of the Afternoon.
"Drooling Isn't Pretty" is a film and fashion junkie who strives to find new and creative ways to combine these two art forms. She is a sucker for a good latte, zombie movies, cupcakes, tattoos, creeper shoes and anything Marc Jacobs.
“One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.”
-Oscar Wilde
