Betsey Johnson SS12

I feel like Betsey Johnson gets a lot of criticism for being “tacky”, over the top and intentionally oblivious to trends, but that is exactly what I love about her designs. This year her collection was a bizarre combination of old fashioned nightgowns, french maids, punk rock flare and trashy track looks, a good percentage of which I would happily wear (in public, too!). I love the chartreuse and fuchsia look, I need to immediately incorporate more of these colours into my wardrobe, and as far as I’m concerned, bone print never gets old. The same goes for sheer+stripes+ruffles (see third look).

I’m not entirely comfortable with the fact that some of the fabrics look like they were snatched off McQueen‘s cutting room floor, but I would still wear that adorable romper (above).

Pistol Perfect

I’ve said it a million times before and I’ll say it a million times more…I love Betsey Johnson. This video just makes me smile. How fierce does Kelly Osbourne look? And I love how Betsey’s extensions are always showing and she’s always smiling, and that she always cartwheels down the runway at the end of her shows. Love the french western theme and all the different characters she portrays through the show :)

Also, I am definitely not one for tacky little dog purses, but HOW CUTE is that “saddle bag” for the puppy? I think its genius.

NYFW10 Rebels

I always look to see what Betsey Johnson and Jeremy Scott put down the runway…they both really seem to have fun with fashion and not mind trends. I love designers that do their own thang and don’t take fashion too seriously. Also, I need the Jeremy Scott cross dress in silver (pictured left, Betsey Johnson on the right).

Bee Mine!

alex mcqueen 1Drooling Isn’t Pretty got a little makeover…thoughts? I’ve been meaning to make a proper header for a while but I haven’t had the time/patience. This one will do until I get bored of it in any case.

I love this Alexander McQueen skull ring, I think it should be the literal right-hand man (er…accessory) to my future beloved bjing bjing. Its so adorably chunky and dark…and I love the bumble bee of course. So drool-worthy!!! Available at Net-A-Porter, though note that it is considerably more expensive than the Betsey Johnson one.

Bjing Bjing

hearts! skulls! bows! sparkles!

Bjing is the product of my undercaffeinated, midterm-fearing brain combining “Betsey Johnson” and “bling”. Anyways…I’m usually not really into jewelry but when I do like something, I really like it. This is the case with this Betsey Johnson Skull “bjing”. Hearts! Sparkles! Bows! Oh my! And its appropriately morbid to balance out the girliness.

Available at Nordstrom online.

In a Betsey Mood

It was Betsey Johnson’s birthday this week, so thinking of her, I checked out what was new on her website…I ell-yoo-vee love this rock lobster cardigan (rock+lobster+cardigan=so me), and this reversible purse is drool-worthy with a pretty rose print on the inside : )

Fall Forward Part Deux

complex geometries AW09

I recently made a post about upcoming collections I’m excited about. Well, the list goes on! Here’s part two, in no particular order, and once again I’ll avoid obvious designers (except Betsey Johnson, cuz I can’t resist).

-Complex Geometries Autumn/Winter 09 collection. I looooove Complex Geometries…the square hoodie was absolute genius, and there’s a bunch of pieces I plan on investing in up on their web shop right now.

Betsey Johnson AW09

-I’m always excited to see what Betsey Johnson comes up with. DUH. Her Fall 2009 collection is punk, girly and super colorful. I’m loving the knits and florals especially. Also, if you click through the lookbook, WHAT DID I TELL YOU about yellow tights? Eh?

Smashbox Reign Jet Set Palette ($48)

Smashbox Reign 'Jet Set" Palette ($48)

-Smashbox Fall “Reign” collection. It’s actually already available, but I love the color scheme for fall, the packaging is awesome and I’m drooling over the “jet set” palette.

-Project Runway season six on August 20th!!! Is anyone else counting the days?!?!? *Obsess over*

Need for Tweed

I love me a good plaid. On the bus today, I was thinking about how if one can do leopard print eyeshadow, why can’t one do a plaid? I was trying to figure out how one would achieve this technically when I got distracted by the Betsey Johnson boutique on Fillmore.

This bus ride is the most painful thing for me; I take the 22 Fillmore from my work to a band practice, and every day I am tortured by the site of the Fillmore shopping district. I even alternate sides so that one day I can gaze at the Betsey Johnson boutique, and the next I feast my eyes on Marc Jacobs. They are only a few blocks apart, and the Mac Cosmetics store is right there too…but I digress.

tweed blush

My point was, I was dreaming about plaid makeup and I came home to discover that Chanel has taken its signature tweed and made a blush with it. According to the site, “Inspired by the iconic Chanel tweed fabric, two contrasting shades of sheer cheek colour are delicately woven with a subtle shimmering powder for a luminous natural glow”. The blush comes in sienna, pink, coral, rose and ambre, each in a signature sleek black case for $45 a pop. Personally I’m sold, (loving the coral especially), any thoughts?

Watch out!

So I got inspired to look for fun watches, and I have to say, Betsey Johnson and Marc Jacobs know what effing time it is when it comes to designing them. My favorites are the Marc Jacobs skull pendant and the Betsey Johnson rose bracelet and heart ring.

time is dimes...none of these gems run cheap

time is dimes...none of these gems run cheap

All of these can be found at asos.com. Watches are a great accessory because its one of those things that you can wear everyday without it getting old…I get very attached to my clothes so its always nice to have something that you can hang on to.

I just went back and counted my watch-related puns…awkward.
