Tron Legacy x Opening Ceremony

Opening Ceremony is doing a fashion collaboration for Disney’s “Tron Legacy”? Who gets to pick these things?

Although the blue moto jacket is pretty rad, and I know heaps of people would wear the bodice dress, (both pictured below), I don’t really understand the logic behind this collaboration. I feel like fans of this collection probably haven’t seen “Tron” or the remake, and fans of the movies probably aren’t going to be interested in $300 yellow shirts. Maybe I’m wrong, but to me, the whole thing sounds like a really hilarious Project Runway challenge.

That being said, even though I don’t really understand the point of the collection, I appreciate it as another overlap between fashion and film. Also, I can TOTALLY see Victoria Beckham wearing that blue tulip dress (top right of the newsletter), anyone with me? Bets are on for how soon she’s photographed wearing it. View the full collection here at Opening Ceremony.

What do you think? Pointless? Awesome? A little bit of both?

Clayton Complex

“Clothing only has life when its being worn by a living person…Clothing is different than a lot of other objects in that it just doesn’t exist on its own…it needs to have someone inside”.-Clayton Evans

Here is a really interesting video interview with Clayton Evans of Complex Geometries, for those who are interested in fashion film. Complex Geometries has come out with some really great video lookbooks by Jason Last, (posted here) who as you know is a fashion filmmaker that I really admire, and here Clayton talks about what the videos mean to the brand and the future of fashion film.

DIFW Day One: Twentyten

As you know, I am really interested in the cinematic potentials of fashion, and am therefore always on the hunt for interesting video lookbooks and fashion films. Since I don’t get to go to London Fashion Week, I have decided to start my own. Please allow me to introduce the first installment of Drooling Isn’t Fashion Week, which will kick off today with an awesome video by Elle Rex for The Twentyten. I will post a video every day for a week for Drooling Isn’t Fashion Week, so buckle your seatbelts! (lol)

(more about “DIFW Day One: Twentyten “, posted with vodpod)

This first video features 80′s vampire movie music by Designer Drugs, purple lipstick, models rocking epic wedges injecting ink into their veins, and lots of fog and slow-motion. Personally I’m sold…thoughts?

Bazaar Props

I read Harper’s Bazaar on the plane to London and it gets massive props for two particularly awesome spreads this month (although I found the Kate Moss cover story rather boring), entitled “The Mode of Almodovar” and “Designer Double Take”.

“The Mode of Almodovar” spread “recasts the beloved Spanish director’s most memorable cinematic scenes with some of fashions most famous faces”. I was of course thrilled because its right up my alley with a fashion meets film theme, and Almodovar is one of my favorite film directors. The spread stars Sonia Rykiel in Women on the Verge, Angela Missoni in Volver and others, including Almodovar himself, all photographed by Jason Schmidt.

The concept of “Designer Double Take” is dressing up model Iris Strubegger as a bunch of famous designers, photographed by Karl Lagerfeld. My favorite is Vivienne Westwood, although of course Donatella and Karl are spot on as well.

Poésy

“I am interested in costume. Clothes in your daily life are important: your choices say something about you, even if what they’re saying is about non-choice. And what you wear in a film is crucial. A film is a great deal about what you see, and the silhouette of a character tells you a lot.” -Clémence Poésy
