Style Icon: Cry Baby Girl
When I was younger, I thought Wanda from Cry Baby was the epitome of cool. The movie came out the year I was born, which might have something to do with my obsession with John Waters, leather jackets and baby doll bangs. I idolized Wanda’s mountains of blonde hair and retro winged liner. Oh to be a babe in Johnny Depp’s posse…Oh and she wore “hysterectomy pants” and played the triangle in their band. I KNOW, right? What a badass.

Poésy
“I am interested in costume. Clothes in your daily life are important: your choices say something about you, even if what they’re saying is about non-choice. And what you wear in a film is crucial. A film is a great deal about what you see, and the silhouette of a character tells you a lot.” -Clémence Poésy

Top Five of the Week
Alright yo, here’s another top five, I know I’ve been slacking. This week I am into…

1) Alice + Olivia…I’ve been posting a lot of Alice + Olivia lately and I covet this chain bag….I COVET IT. Available here at Chickdowntown.
2) Opening Ceremony Where the Wild Things Are collection…I would wear this Max suit every second I am indoors. My teddy bear has a matching outfit, so it seems fitting. Also, the faux fur skirts and jewelry in this collection are pretty epic…more here.
3) Edie Sedgwick hair. I hate my hair right now and don’t know what to do with it…but it pretty much looks like this if I sleep on it wet so I’m going to just accept it. I’m no Edie but I’m going to have to pretend the look is intentional.
4) I’ve recently developed an inexplicable obsession with sugar skulls. I want them everywhere.
5) I know skull scarves are SO Alexander McQueen two-seasons-ago, but I’ve somehow gotten myself back into the whole printed neckerchief thing…I used to wear a bandana everyday (along with tracksuits), and although the tracksuits will definitely never see the light of day again, I’m kinda down to re-commit to the whole unnecessary neck decoration thing again.
I know things have been a bit slow at Drooling Isn’t Pretty, but get ready because something special is coming up for my 200th post.

Fashion Icon of the Week
This week’s fashion icon is Slevin Kelevra (played by Josh Hartnett) in Lucky Number Slevin (Paul McGuigan, 2006). Even though the man spends a lot of his screen time wearing nothing but a flowery purple towel (hey, I can’t complain), he knows how to rock a sweater vest. I love the nerd-chic look of the academic dress shirts paired with clashing argyle sweater vests and a touch of business with the jackets and ties…the prints are crazier than the wallpaper in this movie.
Slevin teaches us not to be a afraid to mix prints and rock a black eye every once in a while : )

Style Icon of the Week

This week’s fashion icon is Anna Estella. With her trademark beehive hair and super girly designs, Anna is a triple threat as a designer, hair/makeup artist and a model. In the same way she says “fashion goes far beyond just clothes”, her style and vision as a designer goes far beyond trends. Check out her blog here : )

Mrs. Frizzle?
Does anyone remember Mrs. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus? If not, you must have been sitting under a clueless rock for the past century, in the middle of Out-of-Touch Land, at the bottom of Oblivious canyon on the MOON, because this woman’s style was bangin’ AND educational!
If I taught a class with the help of a goofy transformer-bus, I would totally wear matchy-matchy dresses and earrings with the theme of the day on them. Also, I want all of her shoes. All of them.
