Go Vintage or Go Home

Today was the Affordable Vintage Fair at Bethnal Green, sponsored by Rag&Bow. As recently I’ve been on this intense vintage kick, I have been excited about this for weeks. For only £2 entry fee,  we had access to loads of heavily discounted vintage stalls from all over England and, as an added bonus, a mobile tea & cake shop. Needless to say, it was AWESOME. I got a really cute skirt for only £9. All photos by Drooling Isn’t Photogenic.

In other news, HOLY BOLERO its cold in London these days. Got caught in the middle of an unexpected yet brief hail storm in Brick Lane today. Also I thought this sign was really great, its kind of hard to read in the photo but it says “The Devil wears Prada but the people wear £5 Plimsoles”

Rainy Days Yellow Bags

Being back in London means rainy days in red buses, easier access to Dazed and Confused, and of course, SELFRIDGES! People go there just to see the beautiful window displays and carry around those iconic yellow shopping bags. I went today (in the rain) to pick up the Comme des Garcons perfume I’ve been obsessing over; “Wonderwood”.

This is the first perfume that I’ve ever actually wanted to wear…I think I love it because it smells warm and cozy, and there’s nothing flowery about it, just woody, spicy, yuminess.

What’s your fragrance?

I Am Lighting

I am back from Barcelona, and back to blogging! I have loads of photos to share from the the trip, (it was such a fashionable city!), but they haven’t been developed yet. Until then, can we talk about this amazing Risto Bimbiloski boyfriend jacket? I love digital prints and this one is bold but not too noisy…and I love that its slightly oversized yet still impeccably tailored.

Available online at Opening Ceremony.

2mm Film

I found this adorable camera necklace at one of the stalls in Camden Lock, and it and I have been inseparable ever since.

When I bought it the lady put it in a plastic bag in an envelope, which I immediately tore to shreds, ignoring the dirty looks I received for destroying the shop lady’s careful packaging.

Maybe she should have known that nothing should get in between me and my baby camera, which hangs so faithfully on its pretty leather strap :) If only it took tiny little postage stamp polaroids to document the good times we have together…

Clearly I’m a tad bit obsessed, but it really is the perfect piece of jewelry for me. That’s the best feeling when a design really speaks to you :)

Geek Chic

I am always predictably smitten with exaggerated proportions and anything over-the-top nerdy. These Iris glasses from NastyGal certainly do the trick…need!!!

Flashback!

My first proper post on Drooling Isn’t Pretty was about rompers…I mentioned I thought they were silly looking and then proceeded to drool over a particular pair of them from NastyGal…and today I discover that the tuxedo one is on sale for twenty bucks!!! Ooooh so tempting…to resist, or to give in??? Where’s the tooth fairy at when I need her? *Rip out tooth*

By the way, there’s a bunch of heavily discounted stuff on NastyGal right now I suggest you all take a look-see.

I’m Back, Eh!

my feet are appropriately veiny and zombie-like

appropriately veiny and zombie-like feet

I’m back from my trip to Montreal! It is a truly amazing city, I would love to live there. The people are so nice, there are tons of festivals year round and there is awesome shopping! I found zombie shoes with little bows at a touristy shop called Overdose, and the cutest dress ever at a boutique called Onze on Saint Denis street. It’s a really cute shop, I will post more about it later, and a picture of the dress.

Right now I have to study for the GRE exam I’m taking tomorrow, blah!

Rompers

I started this post with the idea of ripping the whole romper trend apart, ready to accuse the new obsession of being not only unflattering on all but the most skeletal of body types, but also silly and impractical. I mean, how does one pee in those things? Is it like a one-piece swimsuit where you either strip naked or attempt to pee through the leg hole? Also, romper is just a silly sounding name for a garment, and the alternatives aren’t any better; “jumper” recalls the corduroy overall dresses I wore when I was 6 and “play-suit” sounds like something a stripper would wear. Anyway, I was completely opposed to this trend but alas, Nasty Gal Vintage has forced me to hop on board.

What can I say, I am charmed. Smitten, even. If I have any fashion weaknesses, they are for all things leopard print, all things tuxedo inspired, and silly high heels*. Ten minutes ago I was ready to swear I’d never wear a romper and here I am, trying to talk my credit card into staying safely in my wallet where it can’t do any damage.

Sigh. How do you feel about rompers? Can you pull them off?

*I actually have a lot more fashion weaknesses, but I can go into those at a more strategic time, heh : )
