House of Holland SS12

House of Holland this season was all daring print combinations and beautiful use of sheers. I love the macro-leopard (or cow?) print, ombres, and those amazing pastel colour-blocked sheer collared shirts. And what a brilliant way to use python print! The bleached denim looks like clouds in a very blue sky, and I love his clever take on tartan. I’m hoping to get my hands on those faux snake suspenders.

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac SS12

I was very surprised by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac this season….although there were some of his trademark over-the-top cartoony pieces, such as the Mickey Mouse dress and the grid coat, this collection seemed a lot more somber than he is known for. I was a bit disappointed that his collection was less fun and zany than usual, but I think he does serious well; that little star and cloud dress with the sheer is beautiful, as were all of his wonderful coats and jackets and armour-inspired pieces. I’m just really hoping that this isn’t a permanent change of focus for him, because he is one of the rare designers who infuses a genuine sense of fun and playfulness in his work.

Meadham Kirchhoff SS12

Meadham and Kirchhoff, always a highlight of LFW, delivered clown chic at its best for their Spring 2012 show in an explosion of pastel candy fluff coats, sequined and fringed hotpants, lacy trim, tartan and teddy bear appliqués. WINNING COMBINATION, I daresay. I really wish I’d seen this show in person, it looked like a massive party with balloons, streamers and ballerinas at the end.

Dancing Chanel

Quentin Jones directed this delightful, Dada-esque mixed media fashion film for VogueTV, featuring ballet dancer Emma Chadwick in Chanel SS11. It’s very refreshing to see a cheerful fashion film that incorporates animation and collage video techniques and still shows off the clothes in a creative way. Watch “Dancing Chanel” below;

Pop Romance

I am obsessed with Lime Crime‘s new spring shades. Mint lipstick? Yes please. I don’t think I could pull the yellow off but I NEED the other two.

Also, these put me in the mood for Spring and those sherbert pushpop icecreams :)

Uncle Karl presents a collection about softness and light, with models in ballet flats (who look like real teenagers), a pink macarons palette and millions of beads and sequins.

Elena Gallen

I love these shirts by Elena Gallen. Her SS2006 collection “Freakshow” features freakish Disney characters like a bearded-lady Snow White and two-headed Bambi. “Irony and minimalism in huge colorful screenprinted basic white t-shirts”.

She also did a pretty cool motion graphics fashion film with Tom Geraedts for her SS2010 collection “Sacred Geometry”;

Collect ‘em All

My friend has been obsessing over these Fendi SS11 glasses for weeks, she’s starting to rub off on me…I love the green ones!

Also, is it just me or does that last model look EXACTLY like Demi Moore?

McQueen SS11

Possibly the most anticipated show of Spring 2011 Paris Fashion Week was Alexander McQueen, as it was their first womenswear show designed in the late Lee McQueen’s absence. It was all eyes on Sarah Burton, the new head designer, yet she somehow managed to deliver under the pressure. It couldn’t have been an easy to job to stick to the house trademarks of meticulous tailoring, dark influences and edgy, otherworldly designs, without simply regurgitating Lee Alexander’s previous designs…but the critics have weighed in and it looks like she pulled it off, all while adding her own flair.

“In an extraordinarily beautiful show, Burton succeeded in both being faithful to the late designer’s distinctive design ethos while taking the label into a new era.” -The Guardian _SML3602AlexanderMcQueenSonnyPhotos“A tour-de-force that channeled McQueen’s darkly surreal style, remodeling his signature elements into strange and beautiful confections that managed to be at the same time new and reassuringly familiar.” -Associated Press

“A show laden with emotion that was made even more remarkable because of how right she got it.” – Vogue.com UK_SML3551AlexanderMcQueenSonnyPhotos

“Inspired, this time, by the anatomy of the woman who chooses to wear it and by the flora and fauna of the natural world, it was both technically and artistically perfect.” -The Independent

_SML3589AlexanderMcQueenSonnyPhotos“Sarah Burton … revived the late designer’s challenging legacy with a brilliant first collection imbued with a pagan, bohemian spirit and featuring spectacular hand-crafted detail.” -The Daily Telegraph

SHOWstudio + Gareth Pugh SS11

Another black and white/creepy dancing/edgy electro music/mirror effect/wind machine/boobs/slow-motion video lookbook for you. I have to admit, this one is pretty sick though…and I can’t help but love Gareth Pugh and pretty much everything that comes out of SHOWstudio.

It’s a much longer fashion film than we are used to seeing…did you watch the whole thing or lose interest? Any thoughts? I’m dead curious about that crazy pillow cape/dress at around 8 minutes…and the Givenchy-esque geometric prints.

Kenzooooo

Today I went to my first ever fashion show, Kenzo menswear in Paris. It was such an amazing experience…I’ll post more about the collection later because right now I’m a bit starstruck. I got to meet the amazing fashion blogger BryanBoy, who we interviewed for our new Cohesive TV show, Chic Equipe. Check out my blog for Chic Equipe here for more about Kenzo and what I’ve been working on lately!

My dress is by Cop-Copine and the jacket is H&M.

In With the Old

This looks soooo cozy and delicious, like marshmallows in hot chocolate. As all the winter clothes get dumped on sales racks to make way for this spring’s nauseating floral prints in every form of pastel and bra-strap displaying silhouette known to man, I can’t help but hold on to all that is comfy and flannel. It’s like an oversized men’s plaid shirt except in romper form, and see if care whether it’s in style or not. I just thought I’d give you all advanced warning; While you are all assaulting your privates with this season’s excuse for a denim inseam and trying to find a flattering shade of yellow (good luck), I will be rocking this Pendleton x Opening Ceremony romper.

Available online at Opening Ceremony.

Zip Zip Zip

I am currently packing to fly to Switzerland tomorrow morning to see my mom and my cat (mostly my cat…haha kidding!) but before I zip off on a plane I just HAD to post these amazing Alexander Wang for Linda Farrow zipper sunnies. HOW COOL ARE THESE? I need them immediately, but they are $365 at Opening Ceremony. I have a feeling they’re going to sell out by the time I am back next week, despite the high price tag.

*Sigh* Even though I can’t have them, it makes me happy to know they exist. Would you rock these? Don’t tell me you wouldn’t!

Prada-Yang

“First Spring” is a fashion film by Yang Fudong for Prada. It’s nice to see someone bringing something new to the table…this short is daring, theatrical…and overall just stunning and surreal and meticulous and oh my gosh, every frame is a beautiful photograph from a magazine.

Clearly I’m into it…what are your thoughts?
