Mint

Fashion has become obsessed with mint for Spring…it was Alexander Wang’s main colour for SS11, one of Chanel’s staple must-have nail shades, and its been all over the high street lately. Limecrime even came up with a mint lipstick! The trouble with colour trends is I tend to overdose on them after a few months, so I’m a little concerned I’ll stock up on anything and everything mint coloured and then be sick to death of it all come fall. Ah well, fashion is fickle, as they say.

From top to bottom clockwise: Mint dress from Pixiemarket, Alexander Wang bag, Limecrime “Mint to Be” lipstick, Topshop nail varnish in “Gone Fishing”, mint and leopard Underground creepers.

How do you feel about colour trends?

Skins: Frankie

This season of Skins has been all about fashion in a way that past seasons weren’t. The first few episodes have all been about personal style, and transformation through clothing. The first episode stars Frankie, a trouble girl who is just starting at a new school. Throughout the entire episode, she is constantly getting dressed and undressed, looking in the mirror, and the dialog is constantly about clothes.

Frankie has a sort of rockabilly/teddy boy style with white creepers and big masculine shirts and jackets.  In other words, awesome.

Of course the “mean girls” at school can’t accept her butch look, and attempt to make her over.  Continue reading

The Ugliest of Christmas Sweaters

I’d like to make up for my lack of posts over the Holidays with what I believe to be the most hideously amazing Christmas knitwear ever to graze the small screen, courtesy of the “Five Gold Rings” episode of Rock and Chips. This episode literally features a knitted sari, as well as this nausea-inducing, putrid yellow Christmas tree atrocity. You’re welcome.

Dimepiece SS11

2011! A new year, a clean slate, and finally time to forget about last years tired trends. One thing I have seen WAYYY too much of in the past year is crosses. Cross jewelry, cross t-shirts, cross headbands…YAWN! However I can’t help but love these amazing cross print collars by DimePiece for Spring 2011. The video lookbook, shot by Kathryna Hancock, is equally troubling; Despite its employment of overused fashion film clichés like black & white and mirror effects, I still love it.

So what’s the verdict, can crosses stick around for another season?

Fall Essentials

Today was a beautiful foggy day in London, check out my view! I’ve always really loved the fog, and I’ve been spoiled in terms of gray weather; London, Paris, Monterey, San Francisco…all gray, foggy cities.

Anyway, now that I am in a thoroughly Autumnal mood, I thought I’d post my fall essentials list.

  • Leopard print crop jacket from Topshop. As far as I’m concerned, leopard print is ALWAYS an essential. I’ve been wearing this jacket way too often.
  • Comme des Garcon‘s “Wonderwood“. I already rambled on about it here and here but I think its the perfect fall fragrance…very warm and not flowery at all.
  • Nars matte red lipstick…I’m really liking red lips right now, even though I didn’t used to be a lipstick person. Now I wear it almost every day.
  • Doc Marten Divas. I don’t actually own these, but I love them and I think they would fit in nicely with my fall wardrobe (HA! Excuses).
  • Bandanas/Head scarves. My hair is in that awkward growing out period. Actually its been in that awkward stage for over a year now but the best way to keep me from hacking it all off in frustration is to cover it with a scarf.
  • Peter-Pan collars. I’m not sure why but I love these little collars on everything lately…this one is Topshop but its funner to find vintage dresses with this feature.

Flying Sheep

I am dying over this gorgeous ram fur fringe top by Daydream Nation…I love the two tone, the fringe, the tunic shape and the v-neck, and most of all, the print. It’s like an aztec feather/fur magical sheep situation and I’m all for it.

Available online at Pixie Market.

Closet Confessions

I’m so jealous, Johnny Weir has THE sunglasses I’ve been obsessing over for months now (here). I’m sure you are all sick of hearing about the Jeremy Scott TV glasses but as I can’t help it…as Johnny  Weir says, “The fact that they’re TV’s says it all”.

Also, the man has a “Balenciaga tree”. This refers to a display of EVERY AVAILABLE COLOUR of the classic Balenciaga hobo. I am hideously jealous. Watch his “closet confession” from Bluefly and feel my pain;

Raw Edges

Obsessssssed with this paper thin leather studded jacket by Lily L…love the raw edges and tiny studs. I could see myself rocking this everyday. The dress is pretty rad as well (pictured after the jump).

Pins and Crosses Part Two

Here is the (almost) completed DIY safety pin shirt I mentioned here and here. It was a bit big so I cut the sleeves and pinned the shoulders as well. Apologies for the graininess.

Here you can see a close-up of the shoulder;

Occasionally some belly button peaks through;

Good Things

Good things come when you least expect them. I spent days hunting for shoes after my creepers broke, but to no avail…and then I randomly saw these on my way to Lush. They are the cutest shoes in the whole wide world and they are mine now :)

They  are leopard! And fuzzy! And comfy! I stood in front of the display for about twenty minutes trying to decide which print to go with, they had zebra, lace print and little stars, but these ones just seeemed right.

Tights On Top

I’ve noticed people styling tights over dress shirts and boxers and so on in a way I haven’t seen before…new trend? I love the Vivienne Westwood example (after the jump) but I’m sort of hoping this doesn’t become a mainstream trend :P

Luisaviaroma

I’m so jealous of all the bloggers who are in Florence celebrating Luisa Via Roma’s 10th year anniversary…mostly because I am deeply in love with this Fummel + Kram scarf that they carry.  Fummel + Kram are known for making these incredible embroidered scarves, like the pac man one I mentioned before. I have to say I like this one even more than the pacman one though, first of all because I’ve always been obsessed with russian dolls, and secondly because each one has its own personality here. I spy a clown, a penguin, and a robot…don’t they look festive on the black background?

Available for pre-order online at Luisa Via Roma.

Maneater

A sick video for a sick collection; “Maneater” by Derek Blais & Carly Bangs for Pink  Cobra A/W 2010. I just wish it showed more of the clothes. The lookbook is worth checking out, find it here.

Pom. Pom. Repeat.

I am halfway done with the task of bedazzling my yellow Espadrilles.

How-to: Sew pom pom to shoe. Repeat.

I recommend not sewing while wearing the shoes, for obvious reasons. I’m not sure why I’m telling you this either, because I might be the only person who thinks its a good idea to wear these in public, but you never know.

I Am Lighting

I am back from Barcelona, and back to blogging! I have loads of photos to share from the the trip, (it was such a fashionable city!), but they haven’t been developed yet. Until then, can we talk about this amazing Risto Bimbiloski boyfriend jacket? I love digital prints and this one is bold but not too noisy…and I love that its slightly oversized yet still impeccably tailored.

Available online at Opening Ceremony.

Barock

I don’t think there’s much I need to say about these, anyone who reads this blog knows I’m obsessed with harem trousers. I wear them even though the general public thinks they look like giant diapers, and I would rock these even though the placement of the baroque print kind of evokes a giant crotch chandelier.

Trousers by Kokon To Zai, available online at Farfetch.

Pinned to the Cross

I might just have to steal this idea from the ladies at No Di$count and make my own safety pin cross shirt, like immediately. I have no patience for this type of tedious DIY but the result is so rad that I think its worth it.

Geek Chic

I am always predictably smitten with exaggerated proportions and anything over-the-top nerdy. These Iris glasses from NastyGal certainly do the trick…need!!!
